About Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of complementary medicine based on the principle of like treating like, by the use of minute doses of natural substances.
Over 200 hundred years ago, the German doctor and chemist Samuel Hahnemann developed Homeopathy as an alternative to the harsh and sometimes dangerous treatments of the day. He noted that when healthy patients took a medicine made from Cinchona Bark, used to treat malaria, they would develop some of the symptoms of the disease. This inspired him to start investigating Cinchona bark and the possibility of finding a safe method of delivering the medicine to the patient. Through dilution and succussion Hahnemann was able to create a version of the original substance that had lost all of the toxicity/negative side effects but maintained all of its positive potency.
On this basis he worked relentlessly on his Organon of Homeopathy, laying down the principles of how to use the remedies he was developing and how to understand what each remedy was capable of treating. Through provings, i.e healthy volunteers taking a particular remedy under controlled conditions and documenting all symptoms that appear, Hahnemann was able to discern what each remedy was able to treat.
Over the years many homeopaths have added to the ever increasing list of remedies available using the same methodology.
The most common remedy used is Arnica for bumps and bruises, post operatively and for shock. All remedies are made in the same way as Arnica so if this works for you so could any number of well prescribed remedies.
